Using Forum Posting for online Marketing

June 25th, 2009

Forum posting is another method by which you can bring traffic to your website. Let us say your website is an online bidding website pqrbid.com . And you want to bring traffic to your website and also want to create a brand name awareness. There are thousands of forums that you can leverage to bring traffic to your website. You can join these forums and advertise your website there. However, there is a problem. The moderators will just throw you away, if you arbitrarily post a message. Most of them will definitely ban if you directly include a link to your website pqrbid.com. You will be branded as spammer.

So what is the best practice to get your website name in these forums without being braned as spammers. Note that many of these forums must have discussed about websites which are similar to your website. Go to google and search for, for example, “bidding forum”  or “ebay forum” or anything that is “your relevent keyword” + forum. It will list out many forums that has discussed the topic before. Look at these forums, join the forum, and add a reply to the messages on the forum, such as – “pqrbid.com is another online bidding website that offer better value to sellers. It is also providing $2 to every new login created”.

There are many website on which you can post replies with a link to your websites. Some examples are yahoo message boards, yahoo answers. You need to analyze the cost and effort associated. Posting one message typically costs $0.20. If one such message can bring a traffic of 20, the effective rate is $0.01 per traffic. It may or may not be targeted, depending upon where the message is posted.

You can also use the method in a similar way, to post comments on blogs. Your comment must be relevant and should not look spamming.

Forum and message board posting can be a very effective mean of advertising your website and generate traffic at low cost. At the end of the day you need to calculate the traffic generated per unit dollar spent.

I agree to this article… joining forum is a good thing, one way where you can promote your site. Yes, many forums are removing links because they think that you are a spammer and even I also experience that before. And it annoys me because my effort became useless.

very good article. I was so disappointed that i had been banned for several times. But anyway the admins don’t really care what you wrote, they will block you as long as you put a link.
