Snap EDA still in Beta - does not provide support for Allegro

March 5th, 2014

Sometimes in September 2013, we had written about snapeda and we found it promising if they were to spend time on creating some initial database.

Six months later in March 2014, it is still in Beta stage. We observed that the footprints of most of the components listed out are missing. The navigation is not as smooth as you would like it to be. You would expect a snapshot of the components but none exists.

Most importantly, it is missing altogether a the footprints for Allegro - one of the major EDA vendors. But even if it intends to provide support for ALlegro, it will have to work on several different versions of Allegro. A footprint created in version 16.6, may, for example not work in version 16.3.

There are huge challenges ahead for SnapEDA.But if they are willing to work hard, they may reap benefits.

Hi, thanks for your continued support and feedback re: SnapEDA.

I wanted to inform you that we do provide a snapshot of the components. To see it, click on a part (ex: http://www.snapeda.com/parts/LT1004CD-1-2/Texas%20Instruments/view_part/) and then under Symbols, "View Info". This gives you a full schematic of the symbol that you can zoom in and out on, flag problems if you see them, etc. We also continue to expand the library of parts. We now have over 40,000 symbols and 20,000 footprints and plan to have over 100,000 by the end of this month. With almost all parts you will find either symbols or footprints linked.

Of course there's still a lot more to do and we continue to forge ahead with making improvements, especially to the navigation as you mentioned. We welcome any and all feedback, and appreciate the continued interest!

Regarding Allegro, if we get enough interest we will investigate supporting it. One of the great things about a platform like SnapEDA is that we can robustly add support for multiple versions (ex: both 16.6 and 16.3) for our entire library if we get enough demand.

I almost never comment, however I browsed some of the remarks on Snap EDA still in Beta - does not provide support
for Allegro | Reference Designer. I do have
a couple of questions for you if it's allright. Is it simply me or do a few of the responses come across like they are left by brain dead individuals?

😛 And, if you are posting at additional online social
sites, I'd like to keep up with you. Could you post a list of all of your social pages like your
linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
