MC13892VK and MC13892JVK availability issue – sample

I am often pissed of by the non availability of a component that I have used in the designs. The freescale MC13892VK ( or MC13892JVK for that matter) is the latest one that was “not available”.

And I am not talking about 100 or 1000 units for production. I am just talking about 3 samples to verify my prototype. Numerous contacts with freescale says that the component is not available for the next 3 months. I am not sure why they pour in millions of dollars to bring out a chip that they have no intention of making available to them to the designers or the developers.

MC13892VK  or MC13892JVK is not the only chip that I have seen the issue. How many developers need these chip for samples ? 10 , or 50 may be hundred. If they can just make 5 samples available, they just need 500 of these to take care of the developers need. How much does it take to produce 1000 of these ? They sell it at $4.55 a piece  and they production cost could be $3 or so. Can not they cut their marketing cost and spend $3000 to make the samples available to those who need them ?

An no, I do not want them free. I am ready to pay for the samples. I actually hate to get calls and meet sales representative to collect samples. I loose more money in wasting my time to talk to them. I will prefer to pay a fair price including the shipping cost. I just want them when I need.
