In my earlier post , I had indicated some websites, where we create our blogs that we could use for many purposes. We can use these sites to create our own blogs. We can also use these sites to create backlinks to our own sites for SEO purposes.
I am reading with interest the news that CubeTree has raised $8M in venture capita. The California based startup has developed a enterprise collaboration suite built on a social networking.
CubeTree offers a hosted service which competes with the likes of Yammer in that it allows a closed enterprise Twitter like experience as well as a closed Facebook type of experience. Another feature is that it allows documents like Spreadsheets to be created as objects so that people can comment on them. Other competitors might be SocialText and Jive – CubeTree provides a matrix to show how the think they have more.
I am just visiting their website and I am impressed by the brief resume of Navin Budhiraja, its Chief Technology Officer. Here is the detail of Navin taken from its Cube Tree website.
Navin is CubeTree’s CTO and is responsible for all aspects of CubeTree’s product architecture. Navin started his career at IBM Research, and has held executive roles including CTO, GM and Chief Architect at Center’d, Amazon, Augmentum and Vitria. Navin has a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT-Kanpur and a Ph.D in Computer Science from Cornell University.
I am closely monitoring CubeTree and looking at it vis-a-vis ezdia, which I see as a more powerful platform offering several features as knowledge sharing, content association, chat billing, project posting along with the web 2.0 Enterprise Social Networking. The ezdia’s emphasis is not as much on the social networking as on the enterprise side of the networking.
It will be interesting to see how Cubetree and ezdia fare in future.
I usually do not recite the chat messages from my friends and fellows. But today, I get the message from Priya Pandey, who is in my yahoo chat and I could not stop quoting it for my today’s blog. The message is about the hiking of fees for gold members from the getafreelancer.com. So here goes her message.
priya pandey (17/11/09 12:18 AM):
GAF has changed fee structure Gold Membership is now at $19.95 per month and on top of that we need to pay 3% commission on every project. It seems that they wants to suck our hard earned money. I request you all providers to post a ticket at GAF helpdesk and force them all together to revoke 3% commission. May be we all can afford $19.95 per month for gold membership but 3% commission on each and every project is not at all fair. So again I request you all to write a ticket at GAF helpdesk and force them to revoke 3% commission. Please please please spread this messages to all providers as soon as possible.

It is ridiculous
Many loyal experts of getafreelancer are outraged at the fee hike by getafreelancer. However, this was not entirely unanticipated. Do you know how much ebay, amazon etc charge ? All of them are trying to encash the faith people have put on their platforms.
However, getafreelancer’s hike is too steep and too high. It will lead many members to cancel their gold membership, since, many members are not paid high enough. The projects on getafreelancer are often low paying and hiking of fee will inadvertantly affect the member’s loaylity.
I therefore urge all members to support Priya Pandey’s move to enforce getafreelance scale back the hike. Please forward this blog to all your fellow members of getafreelancer.
Any alternative
So what if the experts want to minimize the amount that will go to the middleman ? Well there is at least one alternative – ezdia. You may signup at ezdia and start offering your services to those who need your service. The search engine at ezdia ensures that you get people can find you based upon your expertise. Ezdia also has teh chat billing option ( Coming soon) that will allow you to turn your expertise into hard cash using the chat option in the same fashion as liveperson.
Leveraging Typo mistake to generate google traffic
Today, I came across an interesting phenomenon. I re wrote my HTC Droid Eris review in my associated content account as a rewrite. However I had unknowingly made one mistake – in the subject I had written HTC Droid Elis review when I actually wanted to write HTC Droid Eris review.
Everyone makes mistake. There is no big deal. Usually such mistakes are common for the writers as well as readers. Accomplished authors take special caution in keeping the spelling and the grammer correct. But they too are human – the typo and spelling mistakes can be minimized but not completely removed.
Coming back to my story, next day I checked my associated content account. I was surprised to see that the number of the reviews of my content was a whopping 68 views just in a matter of 12 hours. I was overwhelmed but curious as to why this review had received such a great response when all of my other contents were struggling to cross mark of 50 even after a week or writing.
I searched google with HTC Droid Eris review, my associated content review was nowhere to be seen in the google search result. I then somhow noticed the spelling mistake. I searched again for HTC Droid Elis review – and then I found what was the reason of the traffic. My AC content was coming to the top.
If authors are making typo and spelling mistakes, the readers are as likely or more to make mistake when searching for a topic in google. The moral of the story is that it does make sense not to be purist. It pays to be incorrect.

Many people have been using facebook nowadays as a method of advertising other websites or products. They are called social media experts. It includes stalwarts like Giovanni Gallucci among others.
I had earlier been using forums, and relevant forums to achieve the same end. I had found that if you voice your pitch and concern at a very relevant forum, you are likely to be heard and get the traffic as well as the attention that the website or the product deserves. The problem with this marketing approach is that it take a huge lot of time to research and find the relevant forum to pitch your a website or a product. You will then need to join the relevant forum that may take additional time.
Using facebook to advertise any product or service is different. First let us not underestimate the power of the 250 million plus users that facebook has. Each user has typically 125 connection. That makes facebook one of the most attracitve way to make your website or the product known to other persons. What social media experts essentially do is that they create a huge number of connections. They are able to do so by writing and citing interesting topics.
They then join forums and start interacting with people online. A typical social media expert has few thousand people in their connectoin. The key to the successful marketing here is to mix the regular posts with some advertising.
For example if I want specialise in marketing the gadgets. I will usually write about the gadgets and latest electronics usually. Then once in a while I will write about one particular gadget that I actually want to advertise. Social media experts are paid to do this kind of job.
If you want to use facebook, start increasing the number of people in your connections and start becoming active by posting something on a daily basis. Depending upon the number of people in your connection, your post will have enough clout to generate few hundred traffic for each message you post.
Many social media experts are criticised for using facebook for advertising to the extent that the line between their posting and the spamming is blurred. Make sure that you are not termed as spammer. The key to successful marketing here is to give variety and quality to the content you post on facebook.
Today, I received some emails in my hotmail as an xls attachment but I am not able to open it. When I click it nothing happens. No warning sign nothing. Dead blank.
I understand that in some cases Microsoft does it for security purposes, but in my case there was no such think.
I got another issue today. Someone tried sending some spam mail to all my contacts in my email. The content of the email was as follows.
“Take you time to prepare the best Christmas gift for your family”. The message was: I’d like to introduce you a very good company: http:// www. wto- store.com. You can find the most Xmas gifts you ever wanted. You won’t miss it!
Microsoft can you help me identify why and where this email came from, and fix it? Thanks
